The Blood of Jesus. What does the blood of Jesus mean and why is it wonderful?
I was asking the Lord what He wanted me to write as I was wrestling and contemplating in which direction He wanted me to go. My mind was brewing with topics and themes of what has been going on. Once I finally surrendered and quieted my mind, the Lord reminded me of this past Holy Week and how it started for me.
Testimony of the blood of Jesus
The Lord reminded me of my trip to Southern California where I saw one of my best friends Clarissa. On Monday, the day after Palm Sunday, Clarissa and I went to Monday Nights at Circuit Riders in Huntington Beach. The whole day on Monday was powerful, and the theme Clarissa and I were experiencing was how God was so intentional with us. From the start of the day to the end of the night, God was interrupting our plans and creating new ones for us.
All that to say, when we realized we were going to CR Monday Nights, I immediately knew God was going to show up and meet me there. My spirit knew I was due for an encounter with God. I was expecting God to show up and meet me in a refreshing, new way.
My spirit knew, and at that point I was waiting on the Lord.
What I loved about that night was how the worship team went right in and just started exalting the name of Jesus – it was absolutely beautiful! It was nothing crazy – just pure heart of worship. You could feel the weight and the anointing in the atmosphere.
We worshipped for about an hour and by the 40 minute mark, I was absolutely wrecked by the Spirit. The whole entire worship set we were just declaring the Lord. It truly felt like an extension of Palm Sunday where people were gathering and preparing the way for the King to come and make an entrance.
I am portraying this whole scene, because in the last song, we sang “The Wonderful Blood,” by Tiffany Hudson, and in that song alone, I truly felt the weight of the Gospel in effect. We were singing about the blood of Jesus, and I was so humbled by the song it brought me to my knees bawling my eyes out.
I truly felt the Holy Spirit in that moment and felt the Gospel on such a deeper level than before. I heard the words of the song in a new light and as we were singing, the overwhelming Love of the Father was so consuming.
Lyrics of “The Wonderful Blood”
And doesn’t it make you wonder
And doesn’t it make you wonder
The blood, the blood, the blood
Your love, Your love, Your love
The blood, the blood, the blood
I’m going to let the words speak for itself, because that’s what I truly felt. How can something so simple be so profound? It truly does make me wonder! How can we plead the blood of Jesus and it can somehow wash our sins, cleanse us, provide atonement and forgiveness?
The blood is mentioned 447 times in the bible. In the Old Testament, there was shedding of blood through a sacrificial lamb, a prophetic symbol to atone for sins. In the New Testament, John called Jesus the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
The wonderful blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross is the reason why we have atonement (the reconciliation of God and humankind through Jesus Christ.)
This is the Gospel. This is the Good News. The weight I felt on Monday Night was because I felt the heaviness the blood of Jesus carries. It does so much for us, and most of us don’t even realize what it means. Not only that, we say it so loosely as another word or phrase in our Christian vocabulary, yet we don’t comprehend the meaning of what we are saying/pleading when we talk about the wonderful blood of Jesus!
How humbling that Jesus Christ truly loves us so much that He was ridiculed, laughed at, mocked, beaten, crucified, had nails punctured through his hands, and hung on a cross so we can live in freedom and be redeemed.
My carnal mind could not comprehend it, but my Spirit grieves and is humbled on what was done on the cross. Blood was dripping out of Jesus’s body and it was a price He paid just for us!
I remember that night when I was on my knees hearing and feeling every word of this song, I was getting images of Jesus dying on the cross, and I couldn’t take it.
Remembering the Blood of Jesus
I don’t know how else to explain this. And as I am writing, I’m not even sure where the Holy Spirit wants to take this, but what I am sure of is that He wants to remind you of His blood.
Yes, Jesus rose again and conquered death, but before He resurrected, He had to shed His blood. The wonderful blood of Jesus is the reason why we are made new and clean. When the enemy tries to remind us of our past trying to evoke shame, guilt, and turn us back to our old ways, we get to plead the blood of Jesus. In that alone, we are purified by His blood.
Once we receive and believe in Christ, there is nothing you can do to separate you from Him. We can continually plead the blood and remind ourselves of the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus washes us clean! The price was paid so we can be made new every single time we call upon Him to forgive us for sins and to lead us to repentance.
All that to say, let’s finish off with some lyrics from the song The Wonderful Blood:
“The work You did is finished
All of our sins forgiven
And now we get to live in
The wonder of the working blood
The cross was Your decision
But death was not the ending
You rose and now we’re risen
The wonder of the working blood“
This is the Gospel. This is the reason for the season.
Do not forget the blood! Do not forget the wonderful blood of Jesus where our sins are forgiven and His blood is forever working in our lives.
Jesus pursued the cross so we can walk in the fullness of God’s Love, Grace, and Mercy.
I experienced this, but whoever this blog lands on, I pray you get to experience this yourself.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending Your Son Jesus to atone for our sins. Thank you for loving us so much You sent your only begotten Son as a sacrificial lamb so we can be in relationship with You. We thank you for your blood Jesus. Father, I pray for the reader today, I pray as they are reading right now, they experience the fullness of who You are. I pray you encounter them in a new, refreshing way. I ask and pray they get to experience the fullness of the Gospel. May they encounter You and be consumed with Your Goodness. I pray your Blood to wash over them and cleanse them. Heavenly Father, may your Child whom you have led here, feel the weight of the Gospel and be overwhelmed by the Good News of your Son Jesus. We thank you for what You have done and continue to do in our lives. Thank you, Lord.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
