It is currently 11:50PM at night and I am writing pages upon pages in my journal. The Lord took me on a whole entire healing journey but I will save that for another day. What I wanted to share is some revelation I received about Jesus’ crucifixion. Today’s blog is titled “Scripture must be fulfilled.” Why? The answer is in John 19: 28- 30.
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
The Holy Spirit highlighted sour wine, hyssop, and mouth to me in the text. In my current walk with the Lord, I am loving dissecting the words of the bible. I am intrigued in getting to know the mysteries of heaven and the intentionality the words in Scripture have. The Word is alive and living. The more you dissect the text, the more the Holy Spirit reveals the original intentions and how there are no accidents in what was written.
I am so excited to share what was revealed to me today. I couldn’t contain it and I had to share this.
For context, we are reading the last moments of Jesus on Earth. We are reading prophecy being fulfilled in this short passage. In a nutshell, we know the Gospel is the Good News of Jesus and showcases the ministry He had on Earth in which we are supposed to continue with the help of the Holy Spirit. In that, we are saved by grace and forgiven for our sins. With that being said, whoever believes in Jesus and receives Him as Lord and Savior will be saved and have eternal life.
With this in mind, I am going to break down the importance of the words that were highlighted to me in the text and how God is so specific with the Words He says and how intentional He is in the details.
- Sour Wine
When I was looking into what sour wine indicates, the main thing that popped out to me was that it infers the expiration of the wine. Sour wine is evidence of a wine going bad. How does that have anything to do with Jesus? In the very last minutes leading to His death, Jesus knew His time was up. He knew the expiration date on His life on Earth had come. I don’t think it was a coincidence He received sour wine when He expressed “I thirst.”
I also don’t think it is a coincidence that His first miracle He performed was turning water into wine. Talk about a full circle moment! I believe the Lord, in this prophetic hour, is in the business of having full circle moments. He is in the process of changing taste buds. There are expiration dates happening to things that the Lord has once done in your life as a miracle. It’s not a time to succumb to the moment, because just like Jesus had an expiration, you can also expect a resurrection, says the Lord.
Do not be dismayed or discouraged, what has an expiration date under the sun, remember there are eternal things in heaven that must be brought down to earth to be fulfilled as well. Remember the prayer is to bring heaven down to earth and to seek first the Kingdom of God and everything else will be added.
- Hyssop
Hyssop has so many properties. There are so many medicinal benefits to hyssop, but something that really stood out to me about this plant is how it cleanses. Even King David noted thousands of years prior to Jesus’ death to cleanse him, King David, with hyssop.
We see this in Psalms 51: 7-11. In context, this is what King David wrote after committing adultery with Bathsheba. This text alludes to the cleansing of sins and the forgiveness of sins we see in the New Testament.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
The Lord is in the details! I believe it was intentional the hyssop plant was used to give Jesus the sour wine because it alludes to the forgiveness of sins and cleansing that is taking place on the cross as He is shedding blood. It quite literally showcases what is happening spiritually!
- Mouth
I believe the mouth is prophetic because what we can deductively reason in regards to the mouth is it’s an entry point and an exit. The mouth is used to project a sound, a voice, and most importantly a Word. Obviously in order to satisfy the thirst, it had to go through the entry point of the mouth, but in doing so, the mouth was signifying the fulfillment of Word. Prophecy was being fulfilled and the soldiers who were feeding through the mouth of the Lord didn’t even realize it. This moment can also allude to when Jesus said “…and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35). Jesus was ingesting the Word that was Spoken, and in the last breathes He fulfilled what had to be done in order for us not to thirst again. How beautiful!
Soon after, Jesus vocalized “It is finished,” and gave up His spirit fulfilling His time, His purpose, and prophecy.
With the sour wine, hyssop, and mouth being highlighted and now that we have understanding, I believe the Holy Spirit wants to reveal to us what is happening prophetically.
For one, we have to recognize what is expiring in our lives. We have to discern what the Lord is ending in this season of our lives. The Lord is in the business of ending a thing and resurrecting a thing. I also want to encourage you that whatever you have gone through is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). In that, the Lord is going to be healing and uprooting some things in your life. There will be a moment of healing, cleansing, and asking the Lord for forgiveness. It is a moment of sanctification, purification, deliverance, and consecration. It’s not a punishment from the Lord, but more so an evidence that the Lord is doing something new in your life. There are some things the Lord wants to heal and reveal before you enter what is new. Lastly, the Lord has given you a Word. There has been prophecy spoken over you. There has been promises from the Lord He has told you. There have been Words spoken to you from the Holy Spirit that have yet to be fulfilled. I am here to encourage you and say the Lord is in the business of seeing His Word come to pass and have it not come back void (Isaiah 55:11). The Lord is saying “If it has come out of His mouth, then it is finished.” Just like Jesus fulfilled His prophecy, you also must fulfill the prophecy over your life.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray over the reader today. I thank you that you have led them to read the Word of the Lord today. I thank you that they have a hunger for You and have a hunger for what You want them to do in their life. God I thank you for what you are doing in the Body of Christ. I thank you, Holy Spirit, for ministering to them through this prophetic word. God, I pray you reveal the expiration dates in their life. Expose the areas where you want to put an end to a thing. I ask and pray you reveal the areas in their life you want to heal and forgive. May you expose the root of all things hidden and seen. Lastly, I pray for the Words you have spoken over them. All the Words you have ministered to them, I pray they will get reminded of every Word that proceeded out of your mouth from adolescence to adulthood. We thank you Jesus for what you are doing and have done. In Jesus Name, Amen.
