Lotus-Eaters
The spirit is moving. Today I felt an urge to look up what is happening around the world. My dad has always taught us to look at what is happening outside of our borders because it can reveal signs of the times. The Holy Spirit was taking me on a bunny trail of what is happening and my heart breaks for the lack of attention to what is happening outside the United States.
For all my believers who study the New Testament, there are disputes between China and other countries, and there are numerous videos of the president of China claiming about a future war and proclaiming it as “Armageddon.” I believe this is so profound and such a powerful statement because, although a ‘war’ may or may not happen, I believe the Holy Spirit wants to remind us to stand on guard and open our eyes to outside our borders.
*Disclaimer I am aware of Matthew 24 and how there will be rumors of wars, but the end is not yet, etc. I just want to bring background and insight of what the Holy Spirit was revealing to me today.*
As I was going through news sources and multiple videos, my heart was breaking because the United States is so bubbled up and nobody realizes how good we have it – we still have a sense of freedom! Although we get little tastes of censorship and mandates are patrolling throughout the states, there are many who still believe in freedom and fight the tyrannical spirit that tries to divide, isolate, and control everyone. I bring attention to this because, we have it so good here, we are blinded and distracted to what is happening globally and spiritually.
The Holy Spirit was showing me how much the United States, and more so the body of Christ needs to wake up – eat the daily Bread and drink from the Living Water, instead of being a Lotus Eater! (wow – thank you, Jesus)!
A Lotus Eater is a person who spends their time indulging in pleasure and luxury rather than dealing with practical concerns.
The Holy Spirit reminded me of the Percy Jackson series (yes – I am aware this movie is based on Greek mythology; but there’s a part of the movie that will tie all this in). “The Lotus Hotel and Casino is derived from the myth of the Lotus Tree. In the myth, there was a tribe called the Lotus-eaters, who were addicted to the fruit of the tree. When Odysseus encountered this tribe during one of his travels, some of his men tasted the fruit and never wanted to leave.” (source)
The term “Lotus Eater” was brewing in my spirit, and as I was reminded of the story and as I dived into its meaning, the Holy Spirit was showing me how much we have taken the bait of the Lotus. We have become Lotus Eaters who are lost in time, unaware of the problems outside of our bubble, wanting to stay in our present, but unaware of reality. It is the act of choosing to live in personal pleasure rather than realizing there is a whole world outside, moving at an accelerated rate. In the Percy Jackson series, Percy and his friends were trapped in the time warp of the Lotus Casino, eating the lotus cookies, and as they ate the lotus cookies, the more they lost the sense of time, and the more they lost focus on their purpose. What they thought was for a couple of hours, turned into 5 days of being stuck in the casino.
This story is what the United States and the body of Christ are embodying – more specifically the lukewarm Christians (but I am classifying the Body of Christ as a whole because we are One). Instead of eating our daily bread and sourcing ourselves with the Living waters of Jesus, we are eating lotus – losing all sense of time, not realizing life is moving fast around us. God is on the move, kingdom building, establishing purpose, and outpouring His spirit on this generation, but those who are eating the lotus the enemy is providing, are losing sense of the times at hand .
You will realize there is so much to pray for once you stop looking at the news our media is feeding us. You will realize celebrity drama, fake news, and selfish pleasures and mindsets are brainwashing and distracting us from what God is doing!
The Holy Spirit is reminding us to step out of the time warp, cleanse our spiritual diet from the lotus, and to start praying, interceding, fasting, standing on guard, and start discerning the times. This blog is a reminder and an encouragement from the Holy Spirit.
We are all on different walks and journeys, but I challenge all those reading to not only pray over yourselves, but pray selflessly. Start praying for the future, for foreign affairs, for the persecuted church, for your brothers and sisters in Christ, for anything the Holy Spirit places on your heart.
Father God, I pray for the reader behind the screen. Thank you for uncensored outlets and the freedom to spread your Word on public platforms. I pray for the Lotus-Eater spirit to be lifted upon this generation and nation. I pray for clarity and peace to wash over this nation. I pray for your cleansing blood to wash the eyes of this generation. I pray for your healing oil to annoint the heads of Your people, Jesus. I pray for our spiritual diets to be fixated on what You provide, Jesus. I pray for a Holy craving of your Bread that satisfies and your cleansing Water that keeps us alive! Thank you, Jesus. Continue to reveal Your spirit to us and I ask You to continually fixate our eyes, heart, and soul to receive and crave You. I pray for a Daniel spirit upon this generation, to eat what is from the Lord and not from the world’s system. In Jesus Name, Amen.
