12.31.21 | Who is your God?
Today, in my morning devotional, I was reading through Psalms 31. As I was reading, I ran into the phrase ‘I [King David] say “You are my God”’ in verse 14. It is so simple, and we say it often, but do we even realize the weight that phrase holds?
The small line took me back to conversations with my dad where he would sit my siblings and I down and ask us “I know who my God is, the God I serve, but who is God in your life?”
The more I grew up and cultivated a relationship with Jesus, the more I understood what my dad was asking. As my relationship evolved and matured, the bible became more alive, and God’s word became more real. In doing so, I started to understand who God was in my life. I see Him in everything. Some would say I over spiritualize things, but I have come to learn to involve God in every aspect of my life. I was able to experience true freedom, when I was able to give Him my everything.
Back to the question “Who is God in your life?” –
All throughout the bible, we see pivotal characters who God calls out and uses and each of them have a different, but similar encounter with God. They all have different backgrounds, convictions, and purposes, but God’s character remains consistent.
I love Christianity, because although we serve the same God, our walk with Christ is all different, but we are all connected and walking in accordance with the Holy Spirit. Our relationship with Christ is determined on where we are spiritually. Like the woman at the well, Jesus always meets us where we are at. Depending on our faith journey, we are all on different paths which ultimately lead to the cross – it’s amazing! It’s amazing because our destination is the same, but some may have to go through more than others, or some may have to sacrifice more than others, etc.
This all ties in to “Who is God in your life?” because we understand who our God is on our journey. My God is a God of faithfulness, correction, and opportunity. More times than not, I believe I get disciplined more by God than my parents – but I embrace it because I understand how God corrects those He loves (Hebrews 12:6)! I have seen God move in my life – more so the past few years. My God is a God of faithfulness because when I was broken, and I left my athlete identity at the cross, God restored all that I had given up once I was humbled and rooted my identity in Jesus. There are things I am doing I could not have achieved on my own strength and will, it was all orchestrated by God. My God is a God of opportunity, because once I let God take control, I see His hand move on my behalf, and He closes doors no man can close, and opens doors no man can open.
To Moses He was Yahweh – I Am. To the Hebrew He was Yeshua – to rescue. There are so many names in the bible which describe who God is for those who called on Him during that time. It is so interesting because all the names unravel God’s character more and more.
So – as 2022 approaches, “Who is God in your life?”
What has He shown you? What has He done for you? What is He doing for you (currently)? The questions are endless, and so is our God. The beauty of Christianity is in the power of our different testimonies!
If you are unsure about who God is in your life; it is okay – it is never too late to cultivate a relationship with Jesus! Jesus is the link between you and God. Jesus gives you access to God the Father, if you believe in Him as your Lord and Savior.
As we enter the new year, allow Jesus to work in and through you. Allow Jesus to open your heart and change your life. My life started to change once I gave my heart to Jesus.
Happy New Year!
I pray God will be made known to you in His entire capacity. I pray His love, grace, and mercy showers you. I pray whoever reads this, will be touched by the Holy Spirit and will be drawn to the provider of Life. I pray for the Bread of Life and Living Water to nourish your soul. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Psalm 9:10 “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
